I had to reach to the top shelf and brush the dust this off this interview. Not many thing go astray here at Monkeysfist. But this gem has laid dormant for way to long. The machine, Christof Drouillet, is the founder of 3DVision, Producer and DJ, and has co-produced with the likes of CPU, Deedrah, Alien Project, Wizzy Noise, and many more. Coming from a age many trancers have not come to know (80’s) and most likely never will, Absolum has stood the test of time and is still producing the some of the worlds best trance. Please continiue reading more on this phenomenon of the psytance world.

Where we’re you born and where are you staying now?

I was born in Paris, France. I’ve been living in Ibiza, Spain for 4 years.
What do your siblings call you and why?
Just Christof
What artists are you currently listening to?
Lots of Electro lately I have to say as reminds me the 80’s. Also any new trance I can get hold of.
When and what was your initial influence to Psytrance?
I came from hard trance, thats what it takes to understand my sound. I used to go to Raves and Trancecore parties in Paris, way before Goa Trance landed in Europe.
What are your favorite VST’s?
I should say Audio Unit as I am a Logic user. I have to say the Wave Plug Ins for EQ and Compression. I use also the Logic Plugs as they’re all good. I like the Buffer Override, Blue, Vanguard, Albino 2 and Live Cut.
What EFX units do you use?
Only Software… mainly Spacedesigner from Logic and Waves…
What are your favorite pieces of hardware in your studio?
Access Virus
What was your best experience in front of a live crowd?
“Encore, Encore…”
What animal describes your music best?
YOU should say…… (ok, i’d say a vicious tiger in attack mode)
If you could do a collaboration with ANY artist, who would it be and why?
Depeche Mode. They are responsible for me being here.
From what other artist(s) do you gain inspiration?
All the new wave and electro sound from the 80’s. Downtempo Xperimental (The Orb, Ultimae, Solar Fields,), Techno and Hard house (Francesco Farfa, Marco Zaffarano, Leo Anibaldi) and the new Electro Scene.
Is there any difference in crowds from party to party?
Oh Yes, the Nrg is never the same.
Where’s you favorite destination to tour too and why?
Japan. No problem smiles and kind people.
How would you compare that to the South African scene?
Same but I have been there only twice. I have been to Japan more than 30 times.
You think you’ll ever NOT be able to make Psytrance?
YES.
How long does it take you to make a track 90% complete?
2 days. And the rest takes around 2 weeks
Do you create sounds by a fool proof process or is everything freestyle and tweaking?
Both. I like surprises. I am always trying something and go somewhere else.
Do you have tip or trick for us?
Kick and Bass? So first…sfgjgj;lkf;jhllgsz 1db ….then oiuyodhkdlahaugols 1,5 db…..and finally you have it.
When and what can we expect from your new album?
I hope soon!
What else is cooking in the world of Absolum?
I am involved in collaborations lately as I have been alone for 10 years. So full on Transwave with Dado, producing lots of new tracks with Frank E Koxbox (we have 2 new ones after the album), Synergy with Samy. I have of course new tracks that I am licensing out on compilation. Then in 2007, I am starting the new album.
